    We're getting married!

  • Program of Events

Although the official wedding date is November 28, there will be multiple days of celebration in classic Indian fashion. Traditionally, many of the ceremonies and events are celebrated by each side separately prior to the union of our families during the wedding ceremony.

    Getting to Jodhpur

Flights tend to be cheapest to Delhi and Mumbai. From there, you can take a domestic flight to Jodhpur. Many flights from the States arrive late at night so you may need to book a hotel for the night prior to a daytime flight to Jodhpur.

    To do in Jodhpur

There will be off time, particularly during the day, to explore some of Jodhpur's top sites.

Umaid Bhawan palace -- beautiful architecture + history

Mehrangarh Fort -- interesting history + views!

Old City Jodhpur (+ Toorji's Step Well) -- the heart of Jodhpur. Markets, tourist traps, and throngs of people.

Other Places to Visit in Rajasthan

Some favorites in our home state!

Udaipur -- The City of Lakes. Beautiful palaces on the water!

Jaipur -- The capital of Rajasthan. Hawa Mahal is the classic palace of winds; Chokhi Dhani is a traditional Rajasthani village experience.

Ranthambore National Park -- Tiger reserve! Go for a chance to see a tiger on safari.

Jaisalmer -- Quintessential desert city, with an iconic fort and surrounding sand dunes to explore.

    Tips

    - The weather should be pleasant in November, about 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

    - You will need rupees in cash if you want to shop at most markets. Be prepared to bargain when shopping!

    - Carrying toilet paper/tissues may be a good idea as many places use traditional toilets.

    - Be careful about eating street food and make sure all water is bottled (safest) or filtered. If you buy a bottle of water, make sure it's sealed before drinking. Also watch out for fruits/vegetables -- only eat things that are cooked or that you peel yourself. (Unless you're feeling adventurous!)

    - Consider visiting a travel clinic for vaccines and malaria prophylaxis.

    - Be cautious if traveling alone, especially women. When in doubt, opt for clothing on the modest side (avoid short shorts).

    - Don't forget a power converter (India uses 220V outlets).

    - Consider a travel plan for your phone (if your phone is unlocked, you can get an Indian sim card pretty cheap).

  • In lieu of gifts

Celebrating our wedding with us is all the gift we need! For those who have expressed interest in doing something else to mark the occasion, we would love for you to support Asha for Education through our Event Page.

Asha for Education is a nonprofit organization which supports socioeconomic equality through access to education in India. The organization has a perfect 100 score on Charity Navigator, with more than ninety-six percent of donations going directly to projects throughout India. Both of us feel very strongly about this cause and we really appreciate any and all support!
